Karde - Velas - Mahabaleshwar with family

Karde beach

So the family headed toward Karde for some R&R. Our favourite haunt there is the Kinara hotel on the beach. The simple stay and homely food make it comfortable. The customary visit to the Datta mandir on the hill was peaceful.

After a couple of days of peace here, we travelled to Velas, famed for the turtles. We stayed at a nice homestay. The hosts provided superb home cooked food. The beach is bit of a distance from the village but it is breathtaking beautiful and remote. No wonder the turtles love it. We visited the turtle breeding grounds but no eggs hatched that day.

Next day after a nice breakfast we headed to Mahabaleshwar. The ghat is an exciting drive. We stopped for lunch in Poladpur on the Goa highway. After lunch as we prepared to head back we found that the car would not start. The battery appeared to be dead. A couple of hours were spent to get a battery guy who, after inspection, declared that a battery replacement was necessary. But we got the car jumpstarted from him and decide to risk it up to Mahabaleshwar. This ment we could not shut down the car on the entire journey. Thankfully the Rhino II did not let us down.

In Mahabaleshwar we got the battery replaced. We stayed at the MTDC. Next morning me and Jo took a walk down to the sunset point while the others slept. Then we packed our bags and headed back home...
